MCSS
When you become a student of Mannix College you become a member of the Mannix College Students’ Society (MCSS) Inc. The MCSS Committee, which is made up of thirteen members, organises and runs most of the social, sporting and cultural events which make Mannix life so enjoyable.
In mid-September of every year the Committee holds elections. All Mannix College students are given the opportunity to run for a position on committee. Voting is preferential and the elected candidates form the following year's Committee.
2009 MCSS Committee
Name: Shannon Brick
Position: President
Hi everyone, I’m Shannon Brick – President/Chief/Lord/Noble/Big Cheese
I’ve got red hair (read; virtue not vice) and am in my third year of university studies which have thus far been a mixed bag of science, law and arts (read; great trivial pursuit skills). I’m from a smallish town in the Macedon Ranges (spa country) called Gisborne and I really enjoy using brackets (it’s a relatively new trend of mine I think). This year I’ll be studying Arts/Law and living on Mid West with Ben and James and a whole stack of other cool cats and sexy babes.
The MCSS is here to make sure your year is filled to the brim with fun and excitement - so make sure you get involved in as much as possible. We have weekly functions, a ridiculous amount of sport, debating (no longer uncool after highschool), the Mannix newspaper, the ball, the college play, fundraisers and a lot of other games and events - so there’s really no excuse not to get involved in something. Make sure you let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions!
I am very excited to be your MCSS president in 2009 and can’t wait for the year ahead.
Name: Tobias Brucksch-Domanski
Position: VIce-President
Tobias "Tobias" Brucksch-Domanski.. VP (vice-president).. Bot West with LouAl.. R.A's: Pieta, Georgia.. MED the II..
Buy me Golden Ale.. Live music and swimming in the sea are enjoyable.. Antarctica would be good to visit..
Name: James Garrick
Position: Treasurer
Hello Freshers!! I’m James Garrick and am your Treasurer for 2009!
Hailing from the picturesque and harmless region of Shepparton; Clayton
seems just like home for me with its beautiful surroundings, family
friendly environment, low crime rate and magnificent cultural nightlife
(the Nott), whilst being only a step away from the CBD! This year I will
be in my second year of studying Biomed and Law at Monash.
As Treasurer, I’ll be looking after the finances - making sure MCSS &
MCBS don’t go broke, so that we can provide you with the greatest fun
possible and allow you all to enjoy memorable college days at Mannix. I
will also be responsible for causing grievous damage when someone forgets
to order a cheeseburger from Mannix Maccas (see Louise about this one).
Things I enjoy at Mannix include: Fish Fridays (always a highlight, as
you will soon learn), breaking the bank at functions and splashing out on
Mannix merchandise. I have a severe phobia of
glass drinking containers, which is why you won’t find them in any public
place at Mannix.
You probably won’t see me around much on Friday mornings, largely
because I love getting up early to go to Uni on this day of the week...
But, look out for me the night before - I’m the top bloke shouting you
all supreme beverages at functions for only $1! Feel free to rock-by the
infamous Mid West at any time too, where I’ll be pitching tents
with El Presidente Shannon Brick, Secretary Ben Stokes, RA’s Bonnie and
Pengaz the Penguin, and of course, our very own Babs!

Name: Ben Stokes
Position: Secretary
Hey all, I'm Ben Stokes and I'm your 2009 secretary. I originally come from the Sunshine Coast up north in Queensland. Unfortunately, I was not smart enough for my own state and so I made the trip to the beautiful town of Clayton to become one of the very much loved med ..kids here at Mannix. My role as secretary involves organising and selling all of the extremely attractive and cheap merchandise that the MCSS has to offer. I, along with Shannon, James and our two RA's Matt and Bonnie, live on the reigning championship floor Mid-West.
So if you ever feel like styling it up in pair of mandarin trackies, pimping it out in a Mannix hoodie, or simply just need a stubbie cooler for that plastic drinking vessel of yours, then drop by mid west and come say hey.
Name: Rob Dauth
Position: Publications Representative
Greetings all and Happy new year (although you are probably in the future, this was written around that time so bear with me)
I'm Rob and through an accident in the vote-counting I am your Publications representative for 2009. A little about me: I am actually from Melbourne (though thankfully some distance from Clayton) and have lived overseas a little bit over the years, eventually finishing off at boarding school (which made the transition to Mannix, and Mannix food in particular, much easier). I am currently doing Commerce at Monash, which, I won't lie, has been pretty mediocre so far. Some of my pet hates are: 1) drinks being taken on to the dance floor, 2) glass being taken to functions and 3) people disrespecting bar staff. This is pretty handy for me, as these are all actual Mannix rules.
Now, about my job - Publications. I will be relying on everyone else to write funny things for the Pigeon, which is this totally cool and wicked student magazine that is released every few weeks (by me). In 2008, I think we worked out that around 97.8% of the cool people at Mannix did something for the Pigeon... I'm just throwing that out there. I'll also be releasing a 'Mannix Messenger' every so often and then, at the end of the year, I have a big job with releasing the Gryphon (the yearbook). Basically it is the most important and sought-after Committee position.
I'm on Mid East this year with my Committee friend Steph and Resident Advisor acquiantances A-Ross and Maddie.
Feel free to drop by whenever you're in the area.

Name: Alex Doyle
Position: Cultural Representative
I, Alex Doyle (mainly just Doyle), am your cultural representative.
You will see me throughout the year running in and out at various
times of the day and eventually directing the 2009 Mannix play (FUN!).
Currently my interests lie in cinema and books on Richard Branson but if you ask me next month they will have changed. I have a short attention span and a rather large love of chocolate.
Name: Al Richardson
Position: Ball Representative
Hi everyone
My name is Tyrell, but most people just call me Al. I may not look it but I am actually African American. I study Medicine, which at most places you would think is pretty exclusive I suppose, but at Mannix, not really. We Med students tend get grouped together and referred to by the same name (you will find out).
Hopefully, for your case that is, I don’t know you from my hometown. I’m from Benalla! I went to school in Shepparton, that’s a little better, but not much really.
I like balls, most kinds of balls, the sporting type, the chocolate salty type and even the moth type. But most of all I like the Mannix College 2009 type. This is probably why I am the Ball rep, which pretty much means I am the one to blame when you hate the bands and cannot get a drink at the ball.
I’m on Bot East with Dougy and I am looking forward to the year ahead.
Name: Steph McSwiney
Position: Communications Representative
Hello there fellow Mannixians!
I’m Steph McSwiney, but my friends call me Squeens, Squeeney or Squeen-Dogg. Now that we’re friends, feel free to take your pick! (Although I draw the line at Squine). How lovely that you are joining us this year - fun times ahead! I’m your Communications Rep this year, which means it’s my job to make sure you have the best time ever, capture it all on video and make a nifty movies to help you remember what you did in 2009! (Think Girls Gone Wild meets Night At The Roxbury).
I study Arts/Law, which naturally makes me better than you. In not too long you’ll be able to pick us law students out from the rest: we’re the ones wearing Ralph Lauren and carrying Longchamp bags while everyone else is in trackies. Studying law also means that I’ll win every debate by throwing in words like “penultimate” until you can’t understand what I’m talking about. Although I’m a law kid, luckily I’ve been diluted by Arts, which makes me cool, fun and pretty chillaxed. Thank god.
I grew up in a big, little town called Wangaratta, but was shipped off to boarding school in Melbourne (think Wild Child meets St. Trinians). I love a good beat and a boogie on the d-floor and I may or may not be addicted to American reality tv shows – which may or may not have resulted in my love for speaking in abbreviations... it’s obvi your just jeal cos I speak in abrevs so whatevs…
I’m very much looking forward to playing with you this year. Mannix is such a fun experience so get excited! I’m also on Mid East like Dauth too, so please come by and say hi, just follow the sweet sounds of Hanson to my room!
Name: Kate Gazzard
Position: Community Representative
My name is Kate
Mannix is great
I'm often late
And make people wait
But it's worth the wait
So don't get irrate
I like vegetables on a plate
In my lactose-intolerant state
Also I am the Community Rep, on Top West, I'm from Ballarat
and I like trees and sunshine and happiness and breathing - that is; not to suffocate.
Name: Tess Bowyer
Position: Functions Representative
Hi everyone,
I'm Tess Bowyer and I'm currently in my second year of a Bachelor of Arts at Monash University, looking to complete a double major major in French and International Studies. I've got nicknames, but none which I've ever encouraged or supported... so I'm not going to mention those here...
I'm also a second year at Mannix and am so excited to be taking on the role of Female Functions Representative on the MCSS Committee for 2009! I organise the weekly Thursday night functions in the JCR, as well as the River Royal Cruise along the Yarra, throw in a few Nott Nights and a number of other events over the year, and that's me!.
I spent my childhood in Melbourne and High School in Bendigo at Catholic College Bendigo. I'm thrilled to be able to call myself a Melbournian once again! (Even if we are in Clayton...). However, the best part about being a MCSS Committee member is being able to pick your floor. So this year i'll be bunking up on Top East, yes, you've probably heard of it. Top East is the best floor in Mannix because of it's awesome social scene, our damn good Nintendo 64 Lap Records, and of course, we always have the best Cheese Toasties after Functions, thanks to our cool RA's. (Jeanie and Cam Pike). Come up to Top East and say hi sometime! You'll probably be around just to absorb our naturally awesome ambience anyway...
Name: Doug Nizzero
Position: Functions Representative
Hey all,
I'm Doug Nizzero and like privileged few at Mannix, I am currently studying Med. I am originally from Bris Vegas, but left it all behind to pursue my dream of living at Mannix College. Apart from saving lives during the weekdays, I enjoy the occasional beverage with friends and jiving it up on the d-floor during functions. I feel that throughout all the frivolity of last year I earnt the respect of my Mannix peers through my mature demeanor and uncanny ability to handle myself.
Speaking of earning the respect of my Mannix peers, I was lucky enough to be elected Male Function's Rep from a field of literally 1's of candidates. And as such I am sharing the unparalleled responsibility of organising weekly functions with the veritable wit of Tess Bowyer your Female Function's Rep for 2009. This year I will be bunking with fellow committee member Al on Bot East, with RA's Davor and Sarah.
Drop by whenever you're in the mood.
Name: Louise Allen
Position: Sports Representative
Hey Kids. I'm Louise, your female sports rep for 2009, Belly's side-kick as I have been called, but quite possible his better half. I'm here to (with Belly's help)...
• Organise and get everyone involved in inter-floor sports, that means you
• Get everyone to the inter-hall sports, which we are going to win this year, a close second last year was more than slightly disappointing
and
• Organise St.Mary's sports day
I'm from Portarlington, little beach town about half an hour on the other side of Geelong. I am ridiculously small, I have a twin brother, no we are not identical, he is a boy and I am a girl.
I'm studying second year Nutrition and Dietetics, but despite this I love a good cheeseburger, easy to get your hands on from the recently built McDonalds aka heaven that is only a short walk from Mannix. I'll be residing on Bot West again this year along with Tobias Brusch-Domanski, VP, come for a visit some time, if only to check out the renovated toilets which no longer resemble public toilets, we'd love for you to drop by.
